On Q&A tonight, News Limited journalist Greg Sheridan insisted, and insisted, and insisted again that George Bush did not claim that God had told him to invade Iraq.
But the BBC, The Independent, The Guardian, The Age, and The Washington Post said this in October 2005:
(In June 2003)…the former Palestinian foreign minister Nabil Shaath says Mr Bush told him and Mahmoud Abbas, former prime minister and now Palestinian President: “I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, ‘George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.’ And I did, and then God would tell me, ‘George go and end the tyranny in Iraq,’ and I did.”
And “now again”, Mr Bush is quoted as telling the two, “I feel God’s words coming to me: ‘Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.’ And by God, I’m gonna do it.”
Those Christian fundamentalists and their imaginary friends.
Those News Limited journalists and their selective hearing.
Those warmongering religious fanatics with God on their side.
But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we’re forced to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide

It’s just some thing that divides tabloid hacks from other forms of humanity, the compulsion to perjure all the time instead of just a lot of the time, like the rest of humanity. We know some folk get paid by wheel barrows of $k’s in the media world, yet people still get cracked up by them, as with the trucks thing, Jones and Abbott and that pitiful remnant of astroturfed-in Hansonists there.

Maybe Sheridan was a little out of his depth. Did not watch the whole show, but what I did, the message seemed to be to the west that they have it wrong and need to keep their noses out of other peoples problems.

Yes, that was very challenging to Sheridan, especially when the Bush claims were made in response to his criticism of the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood on Egyptian politics. He couldn’t seem to get his head around the fact that Christian fundamentalism has a big influence on US politics, he thinks religion only influences politics in the Middle East.He’s forgotten Bush initially framed the invasion as a “crusade” and we all know what that means. I seem to recall Tony Blair got rather esoteric about his Iraq mission as well – either at the time or since.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what Sheridan said on QandA. Can’t believe a thing those Palestinians say, right? On the other hand, Israelis and Greg Sheridan never lie.

Unless they prove otherwise, absolutely spot on. It’d be unwise to stake ANYTHING on something Palestinians say. Most unwise.
As anybody will reveal, who’s served with UN forces ostensibly keeping the scrapping Middle Easterners apart, the Arabs lie through their teeth to you every time, sometimes so outrageously that it is stretching credulity that they expect to be believed. Whilst the Israelis will always tell the truth, just not all of it.
Apparently in such circumstance working out what actually happened/is happening is quite a puzzle. Arabs on one hand are carrying on like raving hotheads with some totally implausible scenario that any sane person knows is complete hogwash, whilst the Israeli representative is telling some higly plausible yarn, backed up by some obvious surface facts, but experience tells you it is going to bite you hard if you believe them & act accordingly. You are correct, Israelis don’t lie, but…..er… they don’t tell you everything either, and their omissions can be rather… extensive.
That digression aside. You are correct. One cannot believe a thing Palestinians say.

Hehehe, there isn’t a hope of that part of the RDA being enforced except against the odd high profile offender. There would be less speeding offences than there are breaches of the RDA act.
There’s daily breaches in my front bar, that make Andrew Bolt’s “racial discrimination” seem like an interracial love orgy in comparison.
