The unexamined and ignorant assumptions of some male LNP MPs, state and federal, on the matter of violence against women is beyond belief. They are led by the example set by our Minister for Women and Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who believes the best thing he’s done for us all year is scrap the carbon tax without uttering a word that addresses or even acknowledges the epidemic proportions of domestic violence perpetrated against us. The LNP at all levels of government continues to excel itself in its arrogant, entitled, privileged and Neanderthal assumptions about who is responsible for violence against women. Without fail, without fail, they consistently manage to come up with some way of blaming us for violent acts perpetrated upon us.
I am absolutely fucking fed up with women being held responsible for violence we suffer, whether its because we’re “irresistible” or drunk, or whatever excuse some arsehat comes up with to justify his own lack of human decency and perverted thought processes.
There is no excuse, there is no fucking excuse for any man to hold onto the belief that in some way, any way, a woman is partly to blame for violent acts inflicted upon her by a man.
Holy feckin mother of god when will it bloody end?

“If a man drinks to excess during a night out on the town, is he partly to blame for being king-hit or otherwise assaulted?
As uncomfortable and difficult as this question is, the answer surely is yes.”

Gavin King, obviously a TeaParty type throwback, someone deeply vengeful at being evicted from the nineteenth century.
Gavin’s statement reeks of contrivance and lack of spontaneity. It is obviously cooked up by press spinners and the misuse of language is conscious and provocative: he could have left his question as a question, phrased it non-adversarially ( women in miniskirts sprawled about blotto at three in the morning are less likely targets than women in burkas, perhaps?), but instead insisted on imposing his judgement, the one thing a reasonable or humble person interested solely in investigating the issue itself, would have avoided.
So he grandstanded and not out of principle but for press/media publicity and in the service of a contemptible, oppressive ideology.

Jennifer’s post is a short one. An ignorant person would bypass it, but knowing Jennifer Wilson, it contains much to be considered, in the unpacking, to do with a metalanguage of violence, coercion and the inculcating of a basic sens e of unfairness that expresses anthropoid struggles for control within a group and the determination of human group dynamics, eg drives the dynamics. It derives of a particular hermeneutic that precludes compromises and exists as a mechanism for social reproduction, but not necessarily to any good teleological purpose.
It is irrelevant that the patriarchist mindset brings little joy for patriarchs, also, we are dealing with the anthropologicial functioning of a species evolving over history to this point, a species defined through limit; an ape still trying to find its way back to the garden or jungle, via a massaged atavistic impulse.
Critical mass hasnt been attained by the species as to its own adulthood, although conciousness and vision and a sense of the future definitely do exist in individuals and societies (over recent times).
Instilled psychological mechanisms against rape have been in place for eons and are adapted to changing circumstances: most men DO have some sort of instilled mental apparatus that governs their behaviours and rape is an aberration rather default practice. But because things are as they just now, a long process awaits us, as we évolve slowly toward a better society, against the efforts of folk like Abbott and King, who cant let old ideas go and live inauthentic lives determined from within a subjective morass of prejudice and illogic, with unrealistic goals derived of a dislocation from reality.

For a brief moment under Goss and Beattie and Bligh Queensland was in the 20th and 21 st centuries, everytime the LNP come back it plunges back to their preferred era of the 1840’s.
