May you always be courageous…

6 Apr

So, this is why I’ve been away for the last few days: my grandson, Theodore Peter, known as Ted:

Ted 2

pictured here in my arms. Brother to Archie.

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
Bob Dylan, Forever Young

    Congratulations, Jennifer Wilson and family.
Young Ted definitely takes after his brother Archie…many, many scraps in the back seat on long drives to look forward to.
Explains some of the pensiveness in that photograph of yourself in the fuhrerbunker with that battery of computers?
Above are both actually are outside candidates for the twenty second century. I wonder what the world will be like when they get to middle age.
Here, all has been sweetness and light, of course. Hardly a murmur made in anger..

Love them dearly, offer them sanctuary and keep them connected to, and respectful of, nature.
(There is more life in a lily pad than an I Pad!)
Saturate their lives with every David Attenborough documentary you can, and let them see you happy and sad with that music of yours.
(Surely a recipe to help them develop and heighten their own perception and intuition skills.)
The closer they are to being themselves, the more room they have left for living life to the fullest.
They are beautiful kids and I am sure their purpose will find them.

…that’s what David Williamson said in the Jane Hutcheon interview…

I hope it’s all good for Ted, Archie and grandma Jen.

They come from good stock and will be wanted and loved- that is a huge start. Starting to get older am amazed at the memories that return from even very early childhood and it all comes together as a sort of adventure, some times a laugh, sometimes a cringe.

Oh GORGEOUS, Jennifer! Congratulations. Just today I read my 14 year old daughter’s ‘baby journal’ to her. It goes so quickly doesn’t it?! Btw, don’t be afraid. They’re much smarter than we are. XO

And isn’t this what it’s all about – this stuff of life and living? And of going on being. The rest is all bluff and bluster. Two beautiful grandsons, Jennifer. You are truly blessed.

Ah, you choose grandsons well, Jennifer!
    Well done!
And the name: Theodore, a gift from God. I am sure the god is Zeus to whom I have just given a skype call. He had promised to send over two gods and all the muses to look over the boy: Apollo, to flood young Theodore’s path with light and vision, with enlightenment and Athena, to flood his mind with wisdom.
And Peter, the solid rock, upon which gods build their palaces.

And he, too, chose his brother well and his grandmother well, as I am sure his grandmother had chosen his mother well.

Welcome to the funny farm Theodore!
Let me know if anyone is giving you diarrhoea and I shall send Achilles over. Or Don Corleone, though you’d need to return the favour one day…

May all your days be joyous, Ted!

It is, that Dylan lyric, I think the very encapsulation of hope against all reason to be sceptical. And that captures perfectly I think how our spirits feel in the presence of a newborn person.

Has he a namesake I wonder? Will he walk softly and carry a big stick? Will he grow into a veritable bear?

So now you’ll have to be careful these two stop breeding or you’ll have to defend those notions of “Big Australia” that Rudd once favoured, because “the personal is political” don’t you know 🙂

Many congratulations, best wishes and, in the absence of the ability to write anything so profoundly beautiful, may Dylan’s sentiments be taken humbly for my own.

I have a great grandfather’s name myself and it is a fine thing to have that sense of connection with history.

I have the three most gorgeous young women on the planet as grand daughters. If the government of 1973 in league with the hospital my daughter was born in had their way I would never have known any of them.

Not that is the most appalling thought isn’t it.

Jennifer, I will be a great granny in August. At age 60, how ridiculous is that.

It is funny how you can think about the future occurrence of something as much as you like but you will never know how you will feel about it, and how all your best ideas will melt away, until it actually happens.

Congratulations to all – especially Ted!
